To the solution of propan-2-ol (100 mg, 1.67 mmol) in perchloromethane (80 mL) was added bismuth(III) bromide (743 mg, 1.67 mmol), the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at room temperature, then methyl 4-(1-hydroxyethyl)benzoate (300 mg, 1.67 mmol) was added to the solution, the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. Then the mixture was concentrated and Then the mixture was concentrated and purified by column chromatography (silica gel, Petroleum ether/ethyl acetate=20:1) to give methyl4-(1-isopropoxyethyl)benzoate (161 mg, 43%) as oil. 1H-NMR (300 MHz, CD3OD) δ 7.96 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.41 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 4.68-4.61 (m, 1H), 3.54-3.46 (m, 1H), 1.38 (d, 3H), 1.15 (d, 3H), 1.06 (d, 3H),
